Ready to get your hands dirty while having a blast in Palawan, Philippines!? Get ready for a 8 days of non-stop action… from volunteering on a humanitarian project with members of the local community to an exciting adventure in the beautiful Bacuit Archipelago, you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to do tourism right!

Adventure Volunteer Trip – 8 day/7 night Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Check into your beachside bungalow or meet your Filipino host family. Relax and explore El Nido town. Welcome dinner and community introductions at beachside restaurant. Evening free.

Day 2-4: Time to get dirty!

3 days of intense volunteering in the community. Projects will reflect the current needs of local communities. Since 23% of the population in Palawan lives in extreme poverty, we’re going to work with these families to empower them and RADICALLY change their lives.

Building Dry Toilets & Sustainable Agriculture!

Many families live in homemade Tagbanua structures in Palawan without access to improved sanitation. When we asked some of these families where their bathroom was they shrugged their shoulders, lifted their hands and said… anywhere, slightly embarrassed. It is our belief that everyone has the right to a dignified existence and having a safe place to poo is fundamental! So this spring we’ll be working with families who don’t have a place for their kids to poo to teach them how to build dry toilets, compost the waste, and use it as a fertilizer in their gardens!

And if they don’t have a garden yet we’re going to help them start one! And get them on the path to food security and food sovereignty!

Recycling, Making Art & Creating Ways to Generate Income

8.8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean each year and more than half of the plastic waste that flows into the ocean comes from just five countries: China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. Since we’re in the Philippines, why not do something about it? So we’ll be setting up recycling stations in El Nido and the surrounding communities to prevent that waste from going to sea :-) We’ll also hold workshops for those interested in creating recycled art to learn various techniques. And will assist them with selling their merchandise so that they can generate income!

While these will be the primary projects during this period additional projects may be included as needs arise. Also, if you have a talent/skill/knowledge (e.g. artistic/musical abilities, construction, health, languages, gardening skills, etc.) that you’d like to share, we welcome your ideas and together we can explore ways of incorporating it into your volunteer program.

Building Homes!

(Jun – Aug, 2016)

Will be partnering with families living in unsafe, makeshift shacks to build them safe, livable homes. We will equip the homes with rainwater collection systems to provide access to clean drinking water and we will install sanitation facilities within the homes to provide access to proper sanitation. We will also equip the homes and familiarize the families with green building designs and renewable energy techniques (e.g. solar power, waste transformation, composting for natural gas generation, rainwater harvesting, natural lighting and ventilation, etc.) to assist families in developing additional technical skills and environmental responsibility. And since no project is complete without a garden, we’ll show each family sustainable agriculture techniques so they can cultivate and raise their own food!
